20 Behold, he smote the rock, that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he
give bread also? can he provide flesh for his people?
21 Therefore the LORD heard this, and was wroth: so a fire was kindled against Jacob, and
anger also came up against Israel;
22 Because they believed not in God, and trusted not in his salvation:
23 Though he had commanded the clouds from above, and opened the doors of heaven,
24 And had rained down manna upon them to eat, and had given them of the corn of heaven.
25 Man did eat angels' food: he sent them meat to the full.
26 He caused an east wind to blow in the heaven: and by his power he brought in the south wind.
27 He rained flesh also upon them as dust, and feathered fowls like as the sand of the sea:
28 And he let itfall in the midst of their camp, round about their habitations.
29 So they did eat, and were well filled: for he gave them their own desire;
30 They were not estranged from their lust. But while their meat wasyet in their mouths,
31 The wrath of God came upon them, and slew the fattest of them, and smote down the chosen
menof Israel.
32 For all this they sinned still, and believed not for his wondrous works.
33 Therefore their days did he consume in vanity, and their years in trouble.
34 When he slew them, then they sought him: and they returned and enquired early after God.
35 And they remembered that God wastheir rock, and the high God their redeemer.
36 Nevertheless they did flatter him with their mouth, and they lied unto him with their
tongues.
37 For their heart was not right with him, neither were they stedfast in his covenant.
38 But he, beingfull of compassion, forgave theiriniquity, and destroyed themnot: yea, many a
time turned he his anger away, and did not stir up all his wrath.
39 For he remembered that they were butflesh; a wind that passeth away, and cometh not
again.
40 How oft did they provoke him in the wilderness, andgrieve him in the desert!
41 Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel.
42 They remembered not his hand, northe day when he delivered them from the enemy.
43 How he had wrought his signs in Egypt, and his wonders in the field of Zoan:
44 And had turned their rivers into blood; and their floods, that they could not drink.
45 He sent divers sorts of flies among them, which devoured them; and frogs, which destroyed
them.
46 He gave also their increase unto the caterpiller, and their labour unto the locust.
47 He destroyed their vines with hail, and their sycomore trees with frost.
48 He gave up their cattle also to the hail, and their flocks to hot thunderbolts.
49 He cast upon them the fierceness of his anger, wrath, and indignation, and trouble, by
sending evil angels among them.
50 He made a way to his anger; he spared not their soul from death, but gave their life over to
the pestilence;
51 And smote all the firstborn in Egypt; the chief of theirstrength in the tabernacles of Ham:
52 But made his own people to go forth like sheep, and guided them in the wilderness like a
flock.
53 And he led them on safely, so that they feared not: but the sea overwhelmed their enemies.
54 And he brought them to the border of his sanctuary, even tothis mountain, whichhis right
hand had purchased.
55 He cast out the heathen also before them, and divided them an inheritance by line, and made
the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents.
56 Yet they tempted and provoked the most high God, and kept not his testimonies:

57 But turned back, and dealt unfaithfully like their fathers: they were turned aside like a
deceitful bow.
58 For they provoked him to anger with their high places, and moved him to jealousy with their
graven images.
59 When God heard this, he was wroth, and greatly abhorred Israel:
60 So that he forsook the tabernacle of Shiloh, the tent whichhe placed among men;
61 And delivered his strength into captivity, and his glory into the enemy's hand.
62 He gave his people over also unto the sword; and was wroth with his inheritance.
63 The fire consumed their young men; and their maidens were not given to marriage.
64 Their priests fell by the sword; and their widows made no lamentation.
65 Then the Lord awaked as one out of sleep, andlike a mighty man that shouteth by reason of
wine.
66 And he smote his enemies in the hinder parts: he put them to a perpetual reproach.
67 Moreover he refused the tabernacle of Joseph, and chose not the tribe of Ephraim:
68 But chose the tribe of Judah, the mount Zion which he loved.
69 And he built his sanctuary like high palaces, like the earth which he hath established for
ever.
70 He chose David also his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds:
71 From following the ewes great with young he brought him to feed Jacob his people, and
Israel his inheritance.
72 So he fed them according to the integrity of his heart; and guided them by the skilfulness of
his hands.
1 <<A Psalm of Asaph.>> O God, the heathen are come into thine inheritance; thy holy temple
have they defiled; they have laid Jerusalem on heaps.
2 The dead bodies of thy servants have they given to bemeat unto the fowls of the heaven, the
flesh of thy saints unto the beasts of the earth.
3 Their blood have they shed like water round about Jerusalem; and there wasnone to bury
them.
4 We are become a reproach to our neighbours, a scorn and derision to them that are round
about us.
5 How long, LORD? wilt thou be angry for ever? shall thy jealousy burn like fire?
6 Pour out thy wrath upon the heathen that have not known thee, and upon the kingdoms that
have not called upon thy name.
7 For they have devoured Jacob, and laid waste his dwelling place.
8 O remember not against us former iniquities: let thy tender mercies speedily prevent us: for
we are brought very low.
9 Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of thy name: and deliver us, and purge away our
sins, for thy name's sake.
10 Wherefore should the heathen say, Where istheir God? let him be known among the heathen
in our sight bythe revenging of the blood of thy servants which isshed.
11 Let the sighing of the prisoner come before thee; according to the greatness of thy power
preserve thou those that are appointed to die;
12 And render unto our neighbours sevenfold into their bosom their reproach, wherewith they
have reproached thee, O Lord.
13 So we thy people and sheep of thy pasture will give thee thanks for ever: we will shew forth
thy praise to all generations.
1 <<To the chief Musician upon Shoshannimeduth, A Psalm of Asaph.>> Give ear, O Shepherd of
Israel, thou that leadest Joseph like a flock; thou that dwellest betweenthe cherubims, shine
forth.

2 Before Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh stir up thy strength, and come andsave us.
3 Turn us again, O God, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.
4 O LORD God of hosts, how long wilt thou be angry against the prayer of thy people?
5 Thou feedest them with the bread of tears; and givest them tears to drink in great measure.
6 Thou makest us a strife unto our neighbours: and our enemies laugh among themselves.
7 Turn us again, O God of hosts, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.
8 Thou hast brought a vine out of Egypt: thou hast cast out the heathen, and planted it.
9 Thou preparedst roombefore it, and didst cause it to take deep root, and it filled the land.
10 The hills were covered with the shadow of it, and the boughs thereof were likethe goodly
cedars.
11 She sent out her boughs unto the sea, and her branches unto the river.
12 Why hast thou thenbroken down her hedges, so that all they which pass by the way do pluck
her?
13 The boar out of the wood doth waste it, and the wild beast of the field doth devour it.
14 Return, we beseech thee, O God of hosts: look down from heaven, and behold, and visit this
vine;
15 And the vineyard which thy right hand hath planted, and the branch thatthou madest strong
for thyself.
16 It isburned with fire, it iscut down: they perish at the rebuke of thy countenance.
17 Let thy hand be upon the man of thy right hand, upon the son of man whomthou madest
strong for thyself.
18 So will not we go back from thee: quicken us, and we will call upon thy name.
19 Turn us again, O LORD God of hosts, cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.
1 <<To the chief Musician upon Gittith, A Psalmof Asaph.>> Sing aloud unto God our strength:
make a joyful noise unto the God of Jacob.
2 Take a psalm, and bring hither the timbrel, the pleasant harp with the psaltery.
3 Blow up the trumpet in the new moon, in the time appointed, on our solemn feast day.
4 For this wasa statute for Israel, anda law of the God of Jacob.
5 This he ordained in Joseph fora testimony, when he went out through the land of Egypt: where
I heard a language thatI understood not.
6 I removed his shoulder from the burden: his hands were delivered from the pots.
7 Thou calledst in trouble, and I delivered thee; I answered thee in the secret place of thunder:
I proved thee at the waters of Meribah. Selah.
8 Hear, O my people, and I will testify unto thee: O Israel, if thou wilt hearken unto me;
9 There shall no strange god be in thee; neither shalt thou worship any strange god.
10 I amthe LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt: open thy mouth wide, and
I will fill it.
11 But my people would not hearken to my voice; and Israel would none of me.
12 So I gave them up unto their own hearts' lust: andthey walked in their own counsels.
13 Oh that my people had hearkened unto me, andIsrael had walked in my ways!
14 I should soon have subdued their enemies, and turned my hand against their adversaries.
15 The haters of the LORD should have submitted themselves unto him: but their time should
have endured for ever.
16 He should have fed them also with the finest of the wheat: and with honey out of the rock
should I have satisfied thee.
1 <<A Psalm of Asaph.>> God standeth in the congregation of the mighty; he judgeth among the
gods.
2 How long will ye judge unjustly, and accept the persons of the wicked? Selah.
3 Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy.
