13 When Ephraim saw his sickness, and Judah sawhis wound, then went Ephraim to the
Assyrian, and sent to king Jareb: yet could he not heal you, nor cure you of your wound.
14 For I will beunto Ephraim as a lion, and as a young lion to the house of Judah: I, evenI, will
tear and go away; I will take away, and none shall rescue him.
15 I will go andreturn to my place, till they acknowledge their offence, and seek my face: in
their affliction they will seek me early.
1 Come, and let us return unto the LORD: for he hath torn, and he will heal us; he hath smitten,
and he will bind us up.
2 After two days will he revive us: in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his
sight.
3 Then shall we know, ifwe follow on to know the LORD: his going forth is prepared as the
morning; and he shall come unto us as the rain, as the latter andformer rain unto the earth.
4 O Ephraim, what shall I do unto thee? O Judah, what shall I do unto thee? for your goodness is
as a morning cloud, and as the early dew it goeth away.
5 Therefore have I hewed themby the prophets; I have slain them by the words of my mouth:
and thy judgments are asthe light thatgoeth forth.
6 For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.
7 But they like men have transgressed the covenant: there have they dealt treacherously
against me.
8 Gilead isa city of them that work iniquity, and ispolluted with blood.
9 And as troops of robbers wait for a man, sothe company of priests murder in the way by
consent: for they commit lewdness.
10 I have seen an horrible thing in the house of Israel: there isthe whoredom of Ephraim, Israel
is defiled.
11 Also, O Judah, he hath set an harvest for thee, when I returned the captivity of my people.
1 When I would have healed Israel, then the iniquity of Ephraim was discovered, and the
wickedness of Samaria: for they commit falsehood; and the thief cometh in, andthe troop of
robbers spoileth without.
2 And they consider not in their hearts thatI remember all their wickedness: now their own
doings have beset them about; they are before my face.
3 They make the king glad with their wickedness, and the princes with their lies.
4 They areall adulterers, as an oven heated by the baker, whoceaseth from raising after he
hath kneaded the dough, until it be leavened.
5 In the day of our king the princes have made himsick with bottles of wine; he stretched out
his hand with scorners.
6 For they have made ready their heart like an oven, whiles they lie in wait: their baker
sleepeth all the night; in the morning it burneth as a flaming fire.
7 They are all hot as an oven, and have devoured their judges; all their kings are fallen: there is
none among them that calleth unto me.
8 Ephraim, he hath mixed himself among the people; Ephraim is a cake not turned.
9 Strangers have devoured his strength, and he knoweth itnot: yea, gray hairs are here and
there upon him, yet he knoweth not.
10 And the pride of Israel testifieth to his face: and they do not return to the LORD their God,
nor seek him for all this.
11 Ephraim also is like a silly dove without heart: they call to Egypt, they go to Assyria.
12 When they shall go, I will spread my net upon them; I will bring them down as the fowls of
the heaven; I will chastise them, as their congregation hath heard.
13 Woe unto them! for they have fled from me: destruction unto them! because they have
transgressed against me: though I have redeemed them, yet they have spoken lies against me.

14 And they have not cried unto me with their heart, when they howled upon their beds: they
assemble themselves for corn and wine, andthey rebel against me.
15 Though I have bound andstrengthened their arms, yet do they imagine mischief against me.
16 They return, butnot to the most High: they are like a deceitful bow: their princes shall fall
by the sword for the rage of their tongue: this shall betheir derision in the land of Egypt.
1 Setthe trumpet to thy mouth. He shall comeas an eagle against the house of the LORD,
because they have transgressed my covenant, and trespassed against my law.
2 Israel shall cry unto me, My God, we know thee.
3 Israel hath cast off the thing that isgood: the enemy shall pursue him.
4 They have set up kings, but not by me: they have made princes, and I knew itnot: of their
silver and their gold have they made them idols, that they may be cut off.
5 Thy calf, O Samaria, hath cast theeoff; mine anger is kindled against them: how long will it
be
ere they attain to innocency?
6 For from Israel wasit also: the workman made it; therefore it isnot God: but the calf of
Samaria shall be broken in pieces.
7 For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind: it hath no stalk: the bud shall
yield no meal: if so be it yield, the strangers shall swallow it up.
8 Israel is swallowed up: now shall they be among the Gentiles as a vessel wherein isno
pleasure.
9 For they are gone up to Assyria, a wild ass alone by himself: Ephraim hath hired lovers.
10 Yea, though they have hired among the nations, now will I gather them, and they shall
sorrow a little for the burden of the king of princes.
11 Because Ephraim hath made many altars to sin, altars shall be unto him to sin.
12 I have written to him the great things of my law, butthey were counted as a strange thing.
13 They sacrifice flesh forthe sacrifices of mine offerings, and eat it; butthe LORD accepteth
them not; now will he remember their iniquity, and visit their sins: they shall return to Egypt.
14 For Israel hath forgotten his Maker, and buildeth temples; and Judah hath multiplied fenced
cities: but I will send a fire upon his cities, and it shall devour the palaces thereof.
1 Rejoice not, O Israel, for joy, as otherpeople: for thou hast gone a whoring from thy God, thou
hast loved a reward upon every cornfloor.
2 The floor and the winepress shall not feed them, and the new wine shall fail in her.
3 They shall not dwell in the LORD'S land; but Ephraim shall return to Egypt, and they shall eat
unclean thingsin Assyria.
4 They shall not offer wine offeringsto the LORD, neither shall they be pleasing unto him: their
sacrifices shall beunto them as the bread of mourners; all that eat thereof shall be polluted:
for their bread for their soul shall not come into the house of the LORD.
5 What will ye do in the solemn day, and in the day of the feast of the LORD?
6 For, lo, they are gone because of destruction: Egypt shall gather them up, Memphis shall bury
them: the pleasant placesfor their silver, nettles shall possess them: thorns shall bein their
tabernacles.
7 The days of visitation are come, the days of recompence are come; Israel shall know it: the
prophet isa fool, the spiritual man ismad, for the multitude of thine iniquity, and the great
hatred.
8 The watchman of Ephraim waswith my God: butthe prophet isa snare of a fowler in all his
ways, andhatred in the house of his God.
9 They have deeply corrupted themselves, as in the days of Gibeah: thereforehe will remember
their iniquity, he will visit their sins.
10 I found Israel like grapes in the wilderness; I saw your fathers as the firstripe in the fig
tree at her first time: butthey went to Baalpeor, and separated themselves unto thatshame;

and theirabominations were according as they loved.
11 As forEphraim, their glory shall fly away like a bird, from the birth, and from the womb,
and from the conception.
12 Though they bring up their children, yet will I bereave them, that there shallnot bea man
left: yea, woe also to them when I depart from them!
13 Ephraim, as I saw Tyrus, isplanted in a pleasant place: but Ephraim shall bring forth his
children to the murderer.
14 Give them, O LORD: what wilt thou give? give them a miscarrying womb and dry breasts.
15 All their wickedness isin Gilgal: for there I hated them: for the wickedness of their doings I
will drive them out of mine house, I will love them no more: all their princes arerevolters.
16 Ephraim is smitten, their root is dried up, they shall bear no fruit: yea, though they bring
forth, yet will I slay eventhe beloved fruitof their womb.
17 My God will cast them away, because they did not hearken unto him: and they shall be
wanderers among the nations.
1 Israel isan empty vine, he bringeth forth fruit unto himself: according to the multitude of his
fruit he hath increased the altars; according to the goodness of his land they have made goodly
images.
2 Their heart is divided; now shall they be found faulty: he shall break down their altars, he
shall spoil their images.
3 For now they shall say, We have no king, because we feared not the LORD; what then should a
king do to us?
4 They have spoken words, swearing falsely in making a covenant: thus judgment springeth up
as hemlock in the furrows of the field.
5 The inhabitants of Samaria shall fear because of the calves of Bethaven: for the people
thereof shall mourn over it, and the priests thereof thatrejoiced on it, for the glory thereof,
because it is departed from it.
6 It shall be also carried unto Assyria fora present to king Jareb: Ephraim shall receive shame,
and Israel shall be ashamed of his own counsel.
7 As forSamaria, her king is cut off as the foam upon the water.
8 The high places also of Aven, the sin of Israel, shall be destroyed: the thorn and the thistle
shall come up on their altars; and they shall say to the mountains, Cover us; and to the hills,
Fall on us.
9 O Israel, thou hast sinned from the days of Gibeah: there they stood: the battle in Gibeah
against the children of iniquity did not overtake them.
10 It isin my desire that I should chastise them; and the people shall be gathered against
them, when they shall bind themselves in their two furrows.
11 And Ephraim is asan heifer that istaught, andloveth to tread out the corn; but I passed
over upon her fair neck: I will make Ephraim to ride; Judah shall plow, andJacob shall break his
clods.
12 Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is
time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain righteousness upon you.
13 Ye have plowed wickedness, ye have reaped iniquity; ye have eaten the fruit of lies: because
thou didst trust in thy way, in the multitude of thy mighty men.
14 Therefore shall a tumult arise among thy people, and all thy fortresses shall be spoiled, as
Shalman spoiled Betharbel in the day of battle: the mother was dashed in pieces upon her
children.
15 So shall Bethel do unto you because of your great wickedness: in a morning shall the king of
Israel utterly be cut off.
1 When Israel wasa child, then I loved him, and called my son out of Egypt.
